Beautiful Me is at the Harbor!

  • BEAUTIFUL ME…The Emma, Alyson, & Katie Hance Project

Beautiful Me is a self-esteem program designed to educate females by promoting appreciation for their genuine qualities, accurate self awareness, and the satisfaction of helping others.

This year BEAUTIFUL ME will be coming to the Harbor for all 3rd and 5th grade girls.

There is a grim statistic we’d like to share with you: only 2% of women think they are beautiful. Through Beautiful Me, the Hance Family Foundation can provide the education that is the antidote to this statistic. We have already reached over 15,000 people with Beautiful Me’s basic lesson plans designed to teach girls of all ages how to think positively and with assurance about their bodies, their skills, and their relationships with others.

In recent years, the need for stronger and more effective character education programs (encompassing the development of self-esteem, self-advocacy, self-confidence, leadership of girls and the prevention of bullying) has received national attention. Beautiful Me strives to accomplish the goals set forth by our state legislatures and educational departments, as well as other thought leaders: “The Beautiful Me curriculum provides instruction and hands-on activities focusing on the wonderful attributes that make each girl special–her strengths, talents, personality, and individuality.” – Beautiful Me: The Emma, Alyson, & Katie Project curriculum guide

The mission of Beautiful Me is to extend the lessons Emma, Alyson, and Katie taught through their examples…that being comfortable with who you are makes you a better sister, daughter, and friend. A curriculum based program administered in three 1-hour sessions by a qualified teacher and/or social worker designed around three core content areas – Emma’s Example, Alyson’s Art, and Katie’s Kindness. The instructors guide the conversations to also include important friendship-building skills and key concepts necessary for building and protecting the girls’ individual gifts.

The focus and goals of the Beautiful Me program are closely aligned with the needs expressed by school districts and schools, including those for students with special needs, institutions of higher education, and agencies dedicated to the education and welfare of girls and women. As a result, the Hance Family Foundation is currently receiving numerous requests to present our program throughout New York State, especially on Long Island and New York City, and the surrounding areas.
