Growing up isn’t easy and sometimes everyday social situations can be difficult for students. Given the natural tendency of children and adolescents to learn from their peers, group therapy is an ideal venue for developing social skills. Circle of Friends, facliitated by our social worker, Mrs. Klein, offers a supportive, goal-oriented environment that works with the strengths of each child to help them feel more confident, comfortable, and in control of their own well-being. This is done though open discussion, goal oriented lessons, role play exercises and coaching on social skills, the sessions provide members with the tools they need to improve their social skills in everyday life. Groups focus on:
- Developing communication skills
- Reading social cues
- Building and maintaining friendships
- Managing sibling relations
- Handling frustration
- Conflict resolution
The group meets 1 time in the 5 day cycle during his/her recess period so he/she will not miss valuable class time. In order to participate, the children must have written permission from their parent or guardian. Please speak with your child's teacher to discuss if this Circle of Friends would be a good fit for your child.
