Biography
Dr. Anthony M. Romeo II has been a professional percussionist and educator since 1991. He has written for and instructed high school bands at Lindenhurst, Levittown Division Avenue, Mineola, Seaford, Garden City, Roslyn and Clark High School in Nevada, Las Vegas, along with instructing and arranger for the Long Island Indoor Marching Percussion Group “Rage.” He has performed in various orchestras, concerts, and musicals throughout Long Island, NY as well as being a private percussion instructor. He has performed with "The Symphonic Band of Suffolk", "The Atlantic Winds Symphony" and is a member of the “Stik Figures Percussion Ensemble,” all based on Long Island, NY and are endorsed by Mike Balter Mallets, Grover Pro Percussion, Beiner Bags and Silver Fox Drum Sticks.
He has earned degrees of B.S. in Music Education and M.A. in Wind Conducting from Hofstra University, studying conducting with Dr. Peter Loel Boonshaft. He has earned his D.M.A in Music Education at Five Towns College, and his School District Leader Certification from Bank Street College of Education. Past percussion instructors have been James Pirone, the “Hip Pickles” leader and founder Chet Doboe, Phil Cimino and Anthony Ambrogio. He holds memberships in many national and countywide organizations and was on the executive board of Suffolk County Music Educators Association as one of the chairpersons for their Day of Percussion for 20 years. He recently started a day of percussion for Nassau Music Educators Association and has been one of the chairmen since 2017. Judging involvement consists of NYSSMA All-State Percussion, NYSSMA Major Organizations and past percussion judge for M.A.A. / E.M.B.A. He has also presented clinics for SCMEA, NYSSMA, NYSBDA and BOCES Arts in Education.
His teaching endeavors include; Wind bands, Percussion Ensembles, Chamber Ensembles, Pit Orchestras, Jazzbands, Indoor Drumlines, and Competitive Marching Bands. He has been a Band Director since 1995, teaching two years in the Islip Public School District, five years at Lindenhurst High School, five years at Mineola High School and is presently a Director of Bands at Seaford High School. Mr. Romeo was the founder of the Athletic Band program at Long Island University in 2016, and ran the marching band and pep band there until 2018. Past honors have been; guest conductor for the Suffolk County Music Educators Association All-County Band in 2008 and 2017, and a guest author for “The School Music News.”

Mr. Coniglio began his musical training at the age of nine with the piano. He then discovered the saxophone and has been playing ever since. During his time at Islip High School Mr. Coniglio was the youngest student to ever be chosen as Drum Major (a position he held for three years). While Drum Major he led the marching band to several championships in USSBA. During his years in high school Mr. Coniglio was also a member of the Symphonic Band and Assistant Director of the musical pit. Also at this time Mr. Coniglio performed with the Nassau/Suffolk Wind Ensemble and Concert Band, which is a group of the best high school players on Long Island.
Once graduated from high school, Mr. Coniglio attended Hofstra University where he received his Bachelor's of Science in Music Education. During his four years of Undergrad at Hofstra, Mr. Coniglio was a member of the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Pep Band, Chorus and Jazz band. He was also the founder of the Hofstra University Saxophone Quartet. Chris also completed his Master's of the Arts in Wind Conducting at Hofstra University.
After graduating from Hofstra Chris taught in the Commack School District. While at Commack Mr. Coniglio taught music to all ages, from elementary up to high school. Mr. Coniglio taught instrumental lessons throughout the entire district, the 9th Grade Concert Band and the High School Guitar Ensemble. As director of the 9th Grade Concert Band Chris had the opportunity to bring in renowned band composer Michael Sweeney to work with his students.Mr. Coniglio has taught at Seaford High School since 2007, where he conducts the Concert Band & Pit Orchestra. Barbara Sherwin started her musical career when she picked up the flute at the age of nine. She discovered the wonders of the piccolo and of singing in high school. It was then that she decided to become a music educator. She received her B.S. in Music Education from Hofstra University in 1992. During her undergraduate studies, she performed as a flautist, piccoloist and vocalist with the Hofstra University Symphonic Band, Orchestra, Collegium Musicum, Chamber Singers, various small ensembles and operatic productions.
She received two Masters Degrees from Hofstra University as well; a Master of Arts in Secondary Education in 1997 and a Master of Arts in Wind Conducting in 2003. She studied with Dr. Peter Loel Boonshaft for the degree in Wind Conducting and also was the Graduate Conducting Associate for the Hofstra University Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band from 2003 - 2006.
Mrs. Sherwin was the principal piccoloist in both of these ensembles for 17 years. During those years she performed under guest composers such as W. Francis Mcbeth, Reber Clark, James Swearingen, Carl Strommen, Jerry Nowak, Commander Lewis Buckley, Loras Schissel, David Holsinger, Edward Lisk, Stephen Melillo, Sean O'Loughlin, Mark Williams, John O'Reilly, David Schaeffer, Robert W. Smith, Sam Hazo, Rossano Gallante and Eric Ewazen.
Mrs. Sherwin has been a member of NYSSMA, NMEA, MENC, NYSBDA and NYSCAME. She has been a music educator since 1992, teaching seven years in the East Meadow Public Schools and is currently teaching at Seaford Middle School for the past 12 years. Her experience in education ranges from elementary general music grades K-6, elementary band, middle level band and chorus as well as high school band and marching band. She also served as Director of Music for the Seaford School District from 2006 through 2011. Mrs. Sherwin currently performs with the Northwinds Symphonic Band as the piccolo player. She currently resides in Farmingdale with her husband Tom and her daughter Christina.
Nicholas Coacci
Mr. Coacci has been teaching in the Seaford School District since 2019. His musical journey started here at the Seaford School District, where he began playing clarinet in the 4th grade at the Manor Elementary School. Mr. Coacci switched to bass clarinet in 6th grade up until 9th grade, when he was given the opportunity to take up tenor saxophone after joining the Seaford High School Marching Band. He has performed in many Seaford Ensembles, including the Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, Marching Band, Pep Band, Honors Chorale and small chamber ensembles. He also served as the High School Marching Band Drum Major. Aside from the many Seaford ensembles Mr. Coacci is also an alumni of the Nassau Suffolk performing arts group and is an active participant in various alumni activities today.
Mr. Coacci earned his Bachelors in Music Education at Hofstra University in 2018 and a Masters in Music Education in 2021. During his time at Hofstra, Mr. Coacci performed in both the Hofstra University Concert Band under the direction of Dr. Jim McCrann and Wind Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Peter Boonshaft. He also kick started the Hofstra University Clarinet Ensemble, which still provides students with enrichment opportunities today.
Mr. Coacci is a proud Alumni of the Seaford School District and a strong advocate for music education. He aims to give his students the same life-long memories and unique enrichment opportunities that he received while he was a student.
