• Top 11 Summer Fun (and Educational) Activities

    1. Plan a picnic or party. Have your child help you make the arrangements. They can write out a grocery list and help you go shopping.  They can also create invitations.
    2. Write to a pen pal, by mail or e-mail. If your child would like to send me a note, I’d be happy to respond! I can be reached by e-mail.  My address is kclark@seaford.k12.ny.us.
    3. Join the Summer Reading Program at the Seaford Public Library. The library also offers a variety of other fun activities and learning experiences over the summer break!
    4. Visit some of these great websites for kids!
    5. Fold a few pieces of paper in half and staple them together. This book can be used to write and illustrate a story, make an address book or keep a summer journal.  (Or keep adding to entries in your 2nd grade writing journal from school this year.)  You can find some more writing ideas here!
    6. Join TD Bank’s Summer Reading Program. Read ten books this summer and earn $10!
    7. Practice your cursive handwriting. Remember, you can find instructional videos for each lowercase letter on my website.
    8. Practice your Trick Words and Word Work rules, too.
    9. Do workbook pages. Our workbooks are used as a supplement to our curriculum; therefore we do not cover all of the pages in each book. We have sent the workbooks home so that you may complete the unused pages!
    10. Try doing the 5-A-Day Math Activities here to review the math concepts learned this year!
    11. READ! READ! READ!  Keep books in your car and in your beach bag!  Be sure to read EVERY DAY!!!!

These are just a few fun, educational activities that can be done over the summer!  Please try some of them!  I realize the summer is short and hectic, but it is important to reinforce the skills learned in second grade.  Have a wonderful summer break!!!
